Resolved Question: Should I get a cat?!?

I have found the cat that, if I was to own one, he is perfect. I live alone and get quite bored and lonely. However I work 8 hr days, and once a week for 12 hours. I just like animals in general, but my family's dog people. They all say no, don't get a cat. My boyfriend says that if I do, I'll have all these responsibilities, and it will be harder to go away, and he personally doesn't think I should. I have been toying with the idea for over a month. I'm just worried that it'll change my whole lifestyle, I won't be the same person anymore, I know that sounds way extreme, but it's what I'm worried about.
